Established in 1972, Silver Jubilee Government Degree College emerged on the glorious eve of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Indian Independence. It is the brainchild of Sri P.V. Narasimha Rao, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, who envisioned a state-wide institution to forge emotional integration of the people from all three regions of the state.
Sri M.V. Rajagopal, the visionary educationist, aimed at providing the best education to the best students irrespective of their financial status. His dream of establishing an ideal academic institution on the model of Cambridge University materialized in this college, offering free boarding and lodging to all students.
Affiliated to Rayalaseema University and conferred with Autonomy by UGC in 2005, the college has earned an 'A' Grade from NAAC.
