A premier institution of higher education on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, established in 1960, named after the revered Biswanath Temple, and dedicated to fostering academic excellence and holistic development for over six decades.
Biswanath College, established in 1960, stands as a distinguished institution of higher education on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River in Biswanath Chariali, Assam. Named after the renowned Biswanath Temple, one of the oldest and most revered temples in Northeast India, the college embodies a deep connection to both culture and academic tradition. The institution was the brainchild of socially conscious and benevolent people of Biswanath Chariali with an indomitable thirst for knowledge and a strong desire to educate the masses of the locality.
Under the visionary leadership of its long-serving principal, Sadananda Chaliha, the college grew in stature, breaking barriers and setting new standards in education. The college was brought under deficit-grant-in-aid by the Government of Assam on 1 April 1963. Today, Biswanath College is affiliated to Gauhati University, accredited with NAAC 'B' Grade, and offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Computer Applications, along with flexible learning options through its GUCDOE and KKHSOU Study Centres.
