Haflong Government College, established on 16 August 1961, stands as the only institution of higher education in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. Located in Haflong, the district headquarters, the college was founded by the visionary Joint Council of United Mikir Hills and North Cachar Hills to address the educational needs of the hill districts. The college was inaugurated by Khagendra Nath Barua, the then Education Minister of Assam, and was taken over by the Government of Assam in 1966, becoming a provincialized institution in 1969.
The college is affiliated to Assam University, Silchar, and has been accredited with NAAC 'B' Grade. With over 1,500 students and 28 teaching departments, the college offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Arts, Science, and Commerce.
