Founded on 16th July 1962, Maris Stella College is a prestigious women's institution run by the Society of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. It was established in response to a request from prominent citizens of Vijayawada, becoming the first college dedicated to educating young women in the region.
The college began with just 18 students and a few programmes, growing into an autonomous institution with over 2,000 students and more than 23 programmes at UG and PG levels. Affiliated to Krishna University, the college received its first NAAC accreditation in 1999, autonomous status in 2003, and was recognized as a 'College with Potential for Excellence' by UGC in 2006.
The college also holds ISO certification and has been ranked in India Today rankings across Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management categories. Its mission is to empower young women through transformative education, nurturing intellectually competent and socially committed individuals.
