Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT), Guwahati, was established on 7 September 2006 as the first engineering college in the non-government sector in Assam . The institute operates under the aegis of the Shrimanta Shankar Academy (SSA) Society, a registered service organization set up in 1992 to make significant contributions for social upliftment through education and to inculcate a sense of discipline among the youth . The motto of the Society is "Truth, Discipline & Excellence" and its aim is to establish a morally sound educational system that produces not only competent professionals but also excellent human beings .
