Nabinchandra College, established in 1969, is a provincialized government degree college situated at Badarpur in the Karimganj district of Assam. The college was born out of necessity — there was no college between Karimganj and Silchar, two towns lying 55 kilometers apart, forcing students to travel long distances for higher education. The people of the region came together to establish the college in 1969, with classes initially held in a rented building.
The college was christened "Nabinchandra College" in 1971 after the father of Basanta Kumar Das, a major donor. It was shifted to its present site in 1974 and brought under the deficit system of grants-in-aid rules of the Assam government the following year. Affiliated to Assam University, Silchar, and recognized by UGC under section 2(f) & 12(B), the college has been accredited with NAAC Grade.
