Krishna University, the youngest among the conventional state universities in Andhra Pradesh, was established in 2008 through the Act No. 29 of 2008, on the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission. Located in Rudravaram, Machilipatnam, the headquarters of Krishna District, the university derives its name from the mighty river Krishna, the lifeline of the Krishna basin. The University Grants Commission conferred recognition on the degrees awarded by Krishna University under Section 22 of the UGC Act in 2010 and accorded 12-B status in 2022.
The university offers a blend of conventional and career-oriented programs across Arts, Sciences, Commerce, Management, Technology, and Pharmacy. All 143 colleges in Krishna District, offering UG, PG, and Professional courses, were affiliated with Krishna University by the academic year 2010-11. The university has three constituent colleges on its main campus at Machilipatnam and one at Nuzvid. The university offers 53 UG honours programs, 7 UG professional programs, 26 PG programs, and 9 PG professional programs through its 150 affiliated colleges.
