Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (University for Women) was founded in 1983 by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri N.T. Rama Rao Garu, with the fervent desire to train women students as better builders of the Nation and to inculcate skills of leadership in all aspects of life. Established under the Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam Act of 1983, the university came into force on 14th April 1983. Today, the university has a student population of nearly 5,300, with 97 academic staff members and 112 academic consultants. The lush green 130.12-acre campus is located about three kilometres from Tirupati railway station, providing an ideal environment for academic pursuit.
The university functions across four schools: School of Sciences, School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Management, School of Nursing, and School of Engineering and Technology. The university offers 51 courses at the postgraduate and undergraduate level, with 52 PG degree programmes offered in 2023-24 alone.
