Established recently in 2024 under the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University Act, AVFU is a landmark institution headquartered in Khanapara, Guwahati. The university was formed by integrating the historic College of Veterinary Science (Khanapara), Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science, and the College of Fisheries (Raha). Previously functioning under Assam Agricultural University, these premier institutions were merged to create a highly specialized academic ecosystem.
AVFU’s primary objective is to make the state self-reliant in the livestock, poultry, and fisheries sectors.
